Our Campaign Fund is exclusively available to current Hallam students or groups that include Hallam students (please note: the Hallam student must be the one that applies to the fund). If you're part of a campaign group, you don't need to be an official society, and if you are a society, just let us know on the form when applying.

Apply to the Fund

What does the fund cover?

All requests are assessed on a case-by-case basis, but we're likely to cover the following:

  • Promotional materials: flyers, posters, or even sponsoring social media posts to help spread the word.
  • Campaign stunt items: if you're planning a bold action to raise awareness, we can help resource what you need.
  • Event spaces: need a place to host an event? We can contribute to the booking costs.
  • Guest speakers: if your campaign would benefit from bringing in an expert or a guest speaker, we can help cover the costs.
  • Travel expenses: if your campaign involves travelling, we can assist with that.

When might we reject an application?

We may reject an application to the fund if:

  • If you request funds to support HSU Elections campaigning. You must stick to your allotted campaigning budget for this.
  • If your group has sufficient society funding, we'll liaise with the relevant team about this.
  • If you're trying to fund activities that have already taken place without prior approval.
  • If you haven't attended our campaign training sessions. We'll make an effort to book one in with you, and it's worth coming for some extra guidance.
  • If your campaign conflicts with our charitable aims, is illegal, or encourages behaviour that violates the Student Code of Conduct.
  • If the items you want to buy are dangerous.
  • If there is an ongoing campaign that's similar to yours. In this case, we'll connect you with the existing campaign organisers.

If your idea is valuable but your goals or resource requests are unrealistic, we'll offer guidance on how to amend your proposal. However, if changes aren't made, we may decline your application.

Final decisions on all applications are at the discretion of our Campaigns and Liberation Manager.

What happens if you're successful?

If your application is approved, you'll be expected to spend the agreed amount of money upfront and claim it back using our expense form. Be sure to keep all receipts as you'll need them to complete the expense form. We'll send an email confirming the amount you're able to claim.

Data privacy

We'll collect your student number and email to contact you about your application and send an evaluation survey about the Fund. Your data will be handled in line with our data and privacy policies.

If you have any questions, please get in touch with us at campaigns@shu.ac.uk.
