Why do you want to be elected as a Students' Union President?

I pride myself on being an active member of the Hallam community. From Volunteering at university events, being a Student Ambassador, Competing at BUCS, and being active in societies, I try to get myself involved in every segment of SHU and would aim to ensure students are supported in their day to day life no matter what they’re up to. I have spoken to many students to get an idea of what they’d like out of Hallam SU and if elected, I will work to create an environment where students can feedback their thoughts to shape the future of SHU.

What would your priorities be as a President?

My priorities are:

1. Partnering with Safe Square to provide a Safe Space for students on their nights out. This would allow for free drug testing facilities, safe meetup spaces, and non-judgemental support.
2. Working with the university to enhance the SNUG scheme for students, offering extended support for tenancy issues, financial challenges, mental health, and extenuating circumstances.
3. Creating a society fund to support new societies and aid existing ones in achieving their goals.
4. Implementing a dedicated open-door policy for student concerns and for feedback on what we can do to support Hallam students further!

What skills and experience do you have that would make you a good President?

Having worked in numerous sectors since the age of 12, I understand the responsibilities of adapting and confidently speaking with new people. Furthermore, a successful track record working in B2B sales has allowed me to refine my negotiation skills required to advocate in your corner to achieve the best possible result. Also, since creating my own business and winning awards relating to management, I pride myself on perfection and would work to understand every aspect of my position. Finally, having worked in many leadership positions, I know what it takes to lead a team and how to delegate responsibility appropriately.

Why do you want to be elected as a Students' Union President?

I think it is the best opportunity to create a change in this huge institution for the years to come and make life better for the future students, also I feel it’s a great way to give back to an union that has looked after the interests of a number of students in the university. And it gives me an opportunity to bring about the change I would like to see in this institution.

What would your priorities be as a President?

I look forward to bridge the gap between the local and International students. Lobby for support and provide more funding for all students and societies. Intervention strategies to all students who experience barriers to their learning and improve academic support. Deliver the union’s strategic aims and uphold the union’s values.

What skills and experience do you have that would make you a good President?

Having worked as the President at my School and the students union president at my Undergrad college, I have worked for the benefits of students, I think I have the ability to work empathetically with fellow students at Hallam to listen to their needs and be able to offer objective and supportive feedback without prejudice. Having grown in India, I see people equally, no matter what ethnicity or race they follow.

Why do you want to be elected as a Students' Union President?

I take huge pride in Hallam, whether it's competing against uni of, focusing on my grades or watching the uni consistently go up in UK and global rankings. However I know there are problems to be addressed that could excel the uni even further. On top of this I enjoy leadership roles as I'm keen on getting things done. Supporting other students is a priority for me and hopefully with this role will come the chance to also support staff. I have plenty of work experience which I know would help.

What would your priorities be as a President?

• Creating effective focus groups to discuss different areas of the uni that require improvement.
• Assisting other officers, Staff and Reps alike in their roles and making sure everyone has the support they need.
• I will always look for more opportunities for activities and events to include all students or as many as possible.
• Increasing awareness for students of different Grants and support that are offered all over the UK for different conditions.

What skills and experience do you have that would make you a good President?

I have previously worked in managing health care agencies, forensic units and agrochemical sales for farming. Which have allowed me to experience multiple management roles, giving me knowledge in how people work best and how to support those that really need it. It has allowed me to be more compassionate and understanding while also doing what needs to be done to get the job done. Alongside this I am multilingual.

Why do you want to be elected as a Students' Union President?

As a logical next step in my tenure at the University, I would like to be able to serve as your representative as President of the Union of Students and carry on with the work I am passionate about. I am confident in my ability to lead the University and Union to even higher heights! It has opened my eyes to the complexity of the University's procedures and structure, and I want to do whatever I could to support the student body now that I know how it feels—you all deserve it!

What would your priorities be as a President?

Providing access to complete support services, such academic advising and mental health resources, is a top priority for me as President. Additionally, I would like to see chances for cultural integration and exchange promoted. In addition, I would push for laws that would allow international students to contribute their abilities and skills to the global workforce while addressing issues with job authorization and post-graduation prospects. To thrive in their academic and professional endeavours, overseas students should feel appreciated, encouraged, and empowered in the environment I hope to establish.

What skills and experience do you have that would make you a good President?

My career with SHU start as a course rep for logistics and supplychain department which help to know what my peers needs from university aswell as from their course. later i woked as student ambasador which help me to develop communication skills, now i am elected president for SHU kerala society. Also I am Halla gold award winner.

Why do you want to be elected as a Students' Union President?

I’ve been working as an Officer for the past 8 months and I have a good understanding of issues students are facing and how to help. I already have strong relationships with University and Student Union staff which means I can get stuff done. I have been listening to your feedback and making changes and I want more time to work on these to really make changes for you, and honestly, I’m not ready to leave yet!

What would your priorities be as a President?

Based on my work so far this year, and speaking to you, I know that timetabling is one of the biggest problems you are having with the university. I’m already working on making changes to this but I want to continue my work to make sure you are having and getting the university experience you deserve. I want to continue my work on sustainability and providing you all with Cost of Living support. I want to help with housing, creating a housemate finder to make it easier for you to find others to live with.

What skills and experience do you have that would make you a good President?

I’ve already been helping Hallam students in my current role as Social Sciences and Art College Officer, so I know how the role of president works and I’m confident I can make even more positive changes for students if I am elected. In my role so far I have set up a Cost of Living Shop, securing partnerships with Aldi and SHU to help you through the current challenges. I’ve lobbied the university for the return of the cafe in Aspect Court and advocated student’s needs to Sheffield’s MPs and leaders.

Why do you want to be elected as a Students' Union President?

According to Harvey S. Firestone, the growth and development of the people is the highest calling of leadership. I want to be re-elected as President because I am passionate about your growth and academic development so that you can be highly employable in the global market. As your President, I have the skills, quality and experience. I have demonstrated that by making sure that your voice is being represented in every policy the University implements. I provided intellectual support to my team members in achieving tremendous accomplishments in the colleges.

What would your priorities be as a President?

If I am re-elected, my priorities would be centred on the feedback we get from students during the Speak Week last year and the policies the University is implementing. I would concentrate on these priorities, after achieving them, I would work tremendously to achieve more before my tenure ends.

• Cost of living support: Cost of living is having negative impact on students’ academic performance. I would lobby the University for more support.
• Convenient timetabling
• Support for disabled students
• Raising awareness for neurodiversity

What skills and experience do you have that would make you a good President?

I have progressed from being a course representative, an NUS delegate to the President. I have undergone different trainings at all levels.

After being elected as President, I had induction training. The training was on Organizational charts which helps in developing working relationships with the University and Union staffs. This has improved my emotional intelligence. How to signpost so that students’ issues can be resolved, develop Officer Team charter, which has positively shaped my purpose and vision, the Belbin test for assessing my role, to mention but a few. I have devoted time in learning French, Spanish, Mandarin, Hindi, Malayalam, Swahili, Twi.

Why do you want to be elected as a Students' Union President?

Hey! I'm Zac, a third-year Applied Social Sciences student running to be your President!

Since starting university, I’ve worked to deliver change for students, from sexual violence to housing support. Now, the university is threatening to close our departments; We need a Students’ Union that isn't afraid to challenge the University and advocate our interests.

After years working to deliver change for Hallam students, I'm asking you for the opportunity to continue doing that as your new Students' Union President

What would your priorities be as a President?

1. Stop the language department closure

Students shouldn’t be punished when finances are mismanaged – I will lead a campaign alongside language students to save the department and stop cuts to our education.

2. Bring back the SU bar and Coffee shop

I will bring back the SU Bar and Coffee Union to re-energise what was once a vibrant Students’ Union at the centre of our community.

3. Stand up for Palestine

I will advocate for the university to cut ties with the arms trade, implement a boycott of Israeli goods and protect our freedom to protest apartheid on campus.

What skills and experience do you have that would make you a good President?

Through years of experience campaigning for students I have learnt what it takes to make change at Hallam. My experience so far includes:

• Exposed the university through a leaked report showing 126 cases of sexual harassment in just one department over two terms!
• Won back £1-3million for students in halls over the COVID-19 lockdown with a rent strike.
• Organised students on campus to defend a Palestinian lecturer at Hallam who was unfairly suspended without pay and successfully got her job back.
