We're run by students. To ensure we get results that improve students' lives as effectively as possible, the Officer team is made up of different roles, each working full-time and responsible for a particular area of the student experience.

President

The President is the lead student representative within Sheffield Hallam Students' Union, and champions the student voice, both to the University, local and national bodies. The successful candidate for this role will have the opportunity to lead the Officer Team, steer the direction of the Union and develop transformative skills.

Type: Full-time
Salary: Circa £22,000
Location: Sheffield (The Students' Union and Sheffield Hallam University Campuses)
Reports to: Board of trustees, student-led accountability panels

Responsibilities

  • Provide Leadership and support for the Elected Officer Team, Elected Reps, and non-academic student groups and societies, supporting and empowering them in their work with students!
  • Act as a Trustee of the Students' Union, having input into the development and implementation of the Union's strategic and financial plans.
  • A figurehead for students, representing their interests with Senior University staff, the National Union of Students and the media.
  • Lead campaigns and initiatives to improve the lives of Hallam students.
  • Ensure effectiveness, transparency and accountability to students, by attending Union Council meetings, being reactive to student concerns, and raising key issues with the University.

International Students' Officer

The International Students' Officer represents the voice of International students at Sheffield Hallam Students' Union. They work on key issues impacting international students at Hallam and have a real opportunity to make important changes to campus life!

Type: Full-time
Salary: Circa £22,000
Location: Sheffield (The Students' Union and Sheffield Hallam University Campuses)
Reports to: The President, Board of trustees, student-led accountability panels

Responsibilities

  • Be a voice for International Students, representing their needs at Union Council, and to the highest governing boards at the University, ensuring we retain an inclusive and global outlook.
  • Advocate for the rights of international students, regularly consulting with the student body, and raising issues at a university level.
  • Lead campaigns and projects to improve the Hallam experience for international students by using current research and working closely with the International experience team.
  • Support and build community amongst international students via collaboration with the International Students' Committee, international orientation and cultural societies.
  • Act as a Trustee of the Students' Union, having input into the development and implementation of the Union's strategic and financial plans.

Wellbeing, Sport and Physical Activity Officer

The Wellbeing, Sport & Physical Activity Officer works to promote physical and mental wellbeing among students at Sheffield Hallam. From raising awareness of issues around mental health to organising Varsity, students in this role can improve the student experience in a huge variety of ways.

Salary: Circa £22,000
Location: Sheffield (The Students' Union and Sheffield Hallam University Campuses)
Reports to: President, and the student body via Union Council

Responsibilities

  • Advocate for the rights and wellbeing of students, by working with key University decision-makers and influencing the University's strategies for sport and wellbeing.
  • Promote positive mental health and wellbeing across the student body, through awareness raising campaigns, and collaboration with student groups.
  • Lobby for improvements to student well-being, ensuring that the Union and University are campaigning on issues negatively impacting students.
  • Create opportunities for students to be involved in sporting and physical activity, by organising events such as Varsity, and the annual Sports Fair.
  • Lead and provide support to sports clubs, teams, and student-led wellbeing projects at Hallam University.
  • Act as a Trustee of the Students Union, having input into the development and implementation of the Union's strategic and financial plans.

Business, Technology and Engineering College Officer

The Business, Technology & Engineering College Officer takes the lead on academic issues within the College of Business, Technology & Engineering. They meet regularly with senior College staff, ensuring that students' opinions are listened to and acted upon.

Location: Sheffield (The Students' Union and Sheffield Hallam University Campuses)
Reports to: President, and the student body via Union Council

Responsibilities

  • Represent the interests of students within the college of Business, Technology and Engineering by attending decision-making boards within the College and wider University.
  • Support and lead Department Reps, Course Reps and Academic Societies with their work to improve the student experience.
  • Lead on campaigns and projects to improve the academic experience of students within their College, ensuring that students are receiving an outstanding and enriching education.
  • Promoting student wellbeing at a college level and building a sense of community amongst students within the College of Business, Technology and Engineering.
  • Act as a Trustee of the Students Union, having input into the development and implementation of the Union's strategic and financial plans.

Health, Wellbeing and Life Sciences College Officer

This role represents the voice of students in the College of Health, Wellbeing and Life Sciences. They sit on the highest governing boards within their College, voicing key issues amongst HWLS students, holding the College to account, and creating positive changes to the student experience.

Reports to: President, and the student body via Union Council

Responsibilities

Social Sciences and Arts College Officer

This role is the lead Representative for students on courses in the College of Social Sciences and Arts. They sit on the highest governing boards within their College, providing an important platform for representing the voice of SSA students and effecting positive changes to student life.

Reports to: President, and the student body via Union Council

Responsibilities

  • Represent the interests of students within the college of Social Sciences and Arts, by attending decision-making boards within the College and wider University.
