This June, we need your help! To coincide with National Volunteers' Week and Carers Week, we're launching our 'Care Package for Carers' campaign.
Did you know student carers make up as much as 6% of the overall student population here at Hallam? From exam stresses to the cost-of-living crisis, being a student can be tough - but life for student carers can be even more challenging.
In recognition of our hardworking student carers, we're inviting all students and staff at Hallam to get involved and create a 'Care Package for Carers'. All you need to do is a fill a shoebox sized box or gift bag with essentials and luxuries to be donated to Hallam's student carers. If you're not able to fill a box or bag, we welcome donations of single items!
Not on campus? Order something from our Amazon Wishlist (be sure to check the delivery address is the Students' Union!)
You can create a care package yourself, or chip in with friends and create a package together!
Your box could include:
- Planner/Journaling notebook
- Toiletries
- Tote Bag
- Gift card/voucher
- Self-care products
- Bath bombs
- Hobby gifts
- Socks and slippers
- Diffusers, essential oils, or scented candles
- Chocolate and other long-life snacks
- A personalised, handwritten letter or a card
Please do not include alcohol or any dangerous items such as knives.
These Care Packages are for adult carers of all genders, so please think about items that are age appropriate, gender non-specific (where possible), and will bring a smile to someone's face this summer. Don't forget to think about fun and luxury as well as practicality!
The HUBS (Students' Union building) will be open for drop offs between 5-9 June - just bring your donations to reception and leave your student number or staff number. There will also be drop off points outside the SU office at Heart of the Campus (Collegiate), and at the top of the stairs on level 5 in Owen building.
We're working with the University's Student Wellbeing Team to ensure completed care packages get to those who need them most. Care package collection information will be sent out to student carers in the near future via the Student Wellbeing Team so, if you're a student carer, please keep an eye out for more information or email volunteering@shu.ac.uk.
