We're aware that many students are currently facing uncertainties with their studies and funding after undertaking Exceptional 3rd Attempts (E3A) at failed reassessments. Depending on the outcome of these attempts there are several different positions that you may now be in. If you are an affected student, you should have been contacted by the University regarding the academic implications of your results, and if you have not then you should contact Hallam Help for further details.
If you are still waiting on further E3A attempts or the results of your reassessments and you have questions regarding what this will mean for your progression, please contact Hallam Help. For any questions about how your funding will be affected, please contact our Student Advice Centre.
The following information outlines the general funding implications for students depending on their results. This guide is for home students studying full-time undergraduate courses and the affect these circumstances may have on your funding - if you do not fit into this category or have any other questions or concerns then please contact our Student Advice Centre directly.
Pass all reassessments
If you have passed all your reassessments and have been told you are able to progress onto your next level of study as planned, your funding entitlement should not have changed. Providing you've had an application for Student Finance for the 2024/25 academic year approved, whilst there may be a delay in receiving your funding, what you receive should not have changed.
You should have received or should soon be receiving a 'Time to enrol' email from the University which will include details of when and how to enrol. Once you are enrolled, the University will confirm your enrolment to Student Finance and following this you should receive your maintenance loan within five working days.
If you are experiencing any financial difficulties in the meantime, you can request emergency food vouchers and find details about the University's Hardship Fund online.
If you're concerned about missing rent payments or any other costs whilst waiting for your Student Finance, please contact us with any concerns.
Failed up to 40 credits
If you have failed 40 credits or less and been told you're able to progress onto your next level of study, then our understanding is that you would re-take the failed modules alongside your new level. Your tuition fees should remain £9,250 and you should receive your full maintenance loan entitlement as you will still be studying full-time.

Failed between 41 and 89 credits
If you have failed between 41 and 89 credits and have been told that you're unable to progress onto the next level of your course, then it's our understanding that you will have to re-take the failed modules in the 24/25 academic year.
If you have applied for Student Finance to study the next year of your course full time, then Student Finance will now need to be updated about the changes to your studies.
If it is before the start date of your course, then you can update Student Finance yourself by submitting a change of circumstances on your online account.
After the start of term, the University would need to update Student Finance about the changes to your studies on your behalf. If you're unsure whether this has happened then you would need to contact Hallam Help and explain this, who should then put you in touch with the appropriate team at the University.
As your course has now been extended for an academic year, this may mean some students with previous study on other courses or previous retake years will not be entitled to tuition fee support from Student Finance. If you are concerned about your tuition fee entitlement or have been told you won't be entitled for tuition fee support for this year then please contact us directly and we can help you explore your options.
Some students with previous years of study can apply for Compelling Personal Reasons (CPRs) which, if approved, would grant you an additional year of tuition fee support from Student Finance. We can support you with your applications for CPRs. Find out more about CPRs.
Please note that we would not advise students to enrol onto a year of study without having funding in place - if you enrol then you will be liable for the fees for the period you are enrolled whether you receive funding from Student Finance England or not. Find out more about how the University charge tuition fees.
If your retake modules are spread over both semesters then you should still receive your full maintenance loan entitlement, however if you will only be in attendance for one term then you will only receive a maintenance loan for the period you're in attendance - this often means you would only receive half of your full year entitlement.
If you have signed up to accommodation that you're now concerned you may not need, we would first advise speaking to your accommodation provider about the situation. Some providers will have clauses in place for tenants whose situations change.
We would advise you make sure if you are released from your tenancy that you ensure you have this in writing from your provider in case you need this in the future.
Find out more about leaving a tenancy.

Failed 90+ Credits
If you have failed 90 credits or more then our understanding is that you should have been told you will now have to retake the full year, possibly with changed modules and content due to many changes in course content.
If this is the case then our understanding is that you would be charged a full years tuition fee and would be in attendance full-time, so should receive your full maintenance loan entitlement.
