We would like to send our support and stand in solidarity with anyone at Hallam and in the wider community who is being impacted by the riots
Sheffield Hallam University is a safe, inclusive, and welcoming community.
We would like to send our support and stand in solidarity with anyone at Hallam and in the wider community who is being impacted by the riots and acts of violence and terror.
At HSU we are committed to a stance of anti-racism; this means we are dedicated to continued and passionate action to stop racism in all its forms. Diversity is one of our greatest strengths and we fully embrace all cultures at Hallam. The ongoing targeted violence against minority groups is unacceptable and not welcome in our community.
Thank you to the emergency services for keeping our community safe.
For any students who may have suffered or witnessed any discriminatory behaviour, feel the news is having a negative impact on their mental health, or would just like to pop in for a chat, there are a variety of support and wellbeing services available.
Our support services
- If the issues are impacting on students' studies, they may wish to seek advice from our Advice Centre. We hold drop-in sessions at the HUBS, or students can get in touch with us by phone or online.
- Students can also contact us via email, direct message on social media, or live chat.
- Sheffield Hallam University provides wellbeing support and a chaplaincy service if students would like to talk to someone about how they are feeling. There are additional resources available on the University website too.
- It is also a good idea for students to talk with their Student Support Adviser.
- If any students need to report a hate crime or incident, please use the University's dedicated Report and Support service.
The University have been made aware that there is a planned far-right gathering in Sheffield city centre on Wednesday 7 August at 1pm. The University are liaising with Sheffield City Council to understand the likely scale of this and will provide appropriate advice to staff and students as soon as possible.
This is a difficult and testing period for our community; we ask that students and staff alike look out for one another.
