Hi there!
We're the Chemistry Society, a society for all those with a love of Chemistry (the best science of course). Join us for all sorts of crazy events, from quizzes battling the biologists to the fabulous end of year ball!
Please make sure to secure your (completely FREE) membership so that we can comminucate our upcoming events to you, which you can also find information about on this page, via our WhatApp groupchat and by following us on Instagram.
We're always looking for event ideas, and to collaborate with others, so please do drop us an email on hallamchemistry@gmail.com and one of the friendly committee will get back to you.
Most of our events are aimed at a general audience with an interest in chemistry, not necessarily chemistry students, so we welcome all as members and attendees at events. A lot of our events are unrelated to chemistry itself, it's more about building a sense of community and to make friends whilst you're at uni :)
Chemistry students can also sign up for a FREE RSC (Royal Society of Chemistry) membership by following this link, and using the code 'CATALYST100': https://www.rsc.org/membership-and-community/join/student-member/
UPCOMING EVENTS:
THE END OF YEAR BALL IS HERE!!
We're so excited to invite you to the biggest and best event of the year... Biosciences, Chemistry and Women in Science End of Year Ball. This will be held on Friday 23rd May 2025 at the Mercure Spa in the city centre, situated next to the beautiful winter gardens and just a 5 minute walk from city campus! We are collaberating with the Biosciences and Women in Science Societies to bring you a very special evening, including a 3 course meal, DJ, and an awards ceremony with prizes. We can cater to a range of dietary requirements (halal, vegan, gluten free etc), if you just let us know in advance via your tickets. We also encourage you to bring a plus one- they don't have to be affiliated with the University or Societies, just as long as they have a ticket :)
Don't miss out your chance to come to this amazing end of year celebration, secure your deposit ticket NOW before it's too late! The deadline for the deposit tickets is Sunday 16th March and we must reach 150 deposit tickets before this event can go ahead!

Catalysing Diversity- A Chemistry Seminar Series for All: Taking place over the next six months, this series will feature scientists from underrepresented groups, including minoritised, LGBTQ+, and neurodivergent communities, who will share their career journeys through engaging talks followed by an opportunity to ask questions. These sessions aim to inspire staff, students and other attendees, increase visability of diverse pathways to success and foster discussions on challenges and solutions within the chemical sciences. This initiativew is made possible through funding from the Royal Society of Chemistry Inclusion and Diversity Fund, led by Dr Prachi Stafford.
The first Seminar was presented by Prof David K. Smith (University of York).

Our second speaker was Professor Robert Mokaya, OBE, from the University of Sheffield.

We can't wait to see you at the future talks soon!
