Sharrow Cafe Volunteer

This opportunity is ongoing, with no end date.

Cafe Volunteers run our cafes. With the help from our trained chefs, you will create nutritious and affordable meals that are accessible to everyone and show what can be done with surplus food. Creating over 100 meals per day saves tonnes of food from going to waste all while feeding the community. The main activities include meal preparation, serving food and drinks, using a coffee machine, serving customers and keeping the front of house clean and tidy.

Food Works is a not-for-profit organisation with the aim to create a more sustainable food system in Sheffield while reducing food waste.

This Role Involves

As a kitchen assistant your role included lots of different kitchen tasks. These include meal prep for our frozen meals, labelling boxes, making coffees and drinks, serving customers, keeping the kitchen clean and tidy. The purpose of our meals and cafe’s is to upcycle the food and add value to it. It shows that the food we save isnt bad quality and with a bit of creativity can become nutritious meals. The kitchens are really creative with the food they receive and every shift is different as we never know what food will be coming in. It is a wonderful environment and the cakes that they bake are always fantastic! Volunteering at our Sharrow Cafe, this roles includes helping to cook our frozen meals, getting creative with the ingredients in both cooking and baking, serving cafe customers, using the tills and making coffee’s, with our coffee machine. A great learning experience for anyone who enjoys cooking, working with people and customer service.
