We're piloting a peer support scheme called Student Social Connect, in collaboration with SHU Wellbeing.

Feeling lonely or isolated? Struggling to make friends? Need help boosting your mental health?

Student Social Connect can help you create a routine, meet new people, and try new things.

How it works

You will be paired with a connector (a trained student) who will help you create a wellbeing plan. This could include anything from getting involved in SU societies and events, to meal prepping, volunteering, or attending meditation classes.

The wellbeing plan will be flexible and can last for up to 6 sessions. You can choose for the connector to attend several activities with you, attend only the first time, or attend none at all, but they will regularly check in with you to see how you're getting on.

Please note: The connectors are not trained mental health professionals; they are students who want to help others connect to their community and improve their wellbeing. This scheme is not a crisis service either; if you are in crisis, please access urgent support.

If you feel this programme could benefit you, please complete our referral form. We just need some basic information about you to get started, and once you've filled it out we'll be in touch to confirm details and assess how we can help.
