President (Paid)

• The lead student representative within HSU, advocating for student interests and directing the Union’s activities.

Social Sciences and Arts Officer (Paid)

• This role leads SSA student representation, advocating on top governing boards to drive positive change.

International Students' Officer (Paid)

• Represents international students within the community, addressing issues that impact their university experience and has the opportunity to make important changes to campus life.

Wellbeing, Sport and Physical Activities Officer (Paid)

• Promotes physical and mental wellbeing among students through awareness and sports initiatives.

Health, Wellbeing and Sciences Officer (Paid)

• This role represents HWLS students, voicing key issues on top governing boards, holding the College accountable, and driving positive change.

Business, Engineering and Technology Officer (Paid)

• Ensures students in the College of BTE are supported academically and students' interests are represented.

Lead Reps (Paid)

Applications for Lead Reps open in Spring (March/April) — keep an eye on our 'work with us' page around that time.

• Lead Reps gather Course Reps’ concerns and raise broader issues in high-level meetings, ensuring staff address student needs. Supported by HSU, they’re equipped to help students every year.

Course Reps (Voluntary)

Applications for Course Reps are open all year round.

• Course Reps collect feedback from students on their course and share it with Lead Reps and university staff to help improve the student experience.

Marketing and Communications Assistant (Paid)

• Support the Marketing and Communications team in boosting student engagement through content creation across digital and physical platforms. Responsibilities include design, copywriting, video production, social media management, and student-focused initiatives.

Outreach and Engagement Assistant (Paid)

• Provide front-line student support by handling enquiries, running outreach campaigns, and aiding retention. As the first contact, offer information, signpost services, record interactions, and collaborate to enhance engagement.

Social Connectors (Paid)

• Part-time role supporting students with holistic, non-medical wellbeing support. Responsibilities include student meetings, activity planning, resource creation, and collaborating with the Wellbeing team.

Community Organisers (Paid)

• Part-time role advocating for student rights, supporting liberation communities, and driving engagement. Responsibilities include amplifying voices, building relationships, and leading campaigns for positive change.

Cost of Living Shop Staff (Voluntary)

• Volunteer with HSU’s Cost-of-Living Shop, supporting the Community Fridge and Swap Shop by redistributing food and running sustainable swaps. Gain experience in sustainability, customer service, and community support while aiding students.

Student Engagement Assistants (Paid)

Applications open around June/July - keep an eye out on Handshake for vacancies.

• Part-time Students’ Union Brand Ambassador role boosting engagement by promoting events, activities, and services through outreach, social media, and campus interactions. Responsibilities include leading trips, supporting key events, and enhancing SU visibility.

Campaign Assistant (Voluntary)

• A short-term placement supporting student-led campaigns and advocacy projects.

Society Committee elections take place every year around Spring (March/April).

Society President (Voluntary)

• Lead and represent the society, ensuring smooth operation, setting goals, and supporting the committee and members while maintaining communication with the SU.

Society Treasurer (Voluntary)

• Manage the society’s finances, create budgets, oversee spending, process funding requests, and ensure financial sustainability while working with the committee and SU.

Society Secretary (Voluntary)

• Handle the society’s administrative tasks, including booking venues, taking meeting minutes, organising events, and ensuring clear communication between members and external partners.

Health and Safety Officer (Voluntary)

• Oversees risk assessments, safety measures, incident reporting, and equipment upkeep for societies. Gains experience in risk management, teamwork, and compliance. Mandatory for high-risk societies.

Can I work during the holidays or outside term-time?

• Some roles continue through holidays; others are term-time only.

What is the hourly wage or salary?

• Pay varies by role. We aim to offer the National Living Wage but check the individual job listings for specific details.

Are student staff paid weekly or monthly?

• All student staff are paid monthly.

Do I get holiday pay or other benefits?

• Yes! Benefits are outlined in each job description, including holiday pay and any additional perks.

Will I get training once I start?

• Yes - we provide all the training needed for your role. If you require additional support, we'll work with you to ensure you're fully prepared.

Will I receive a reference at the end of my employment?

• Yes! You can request a reference once your role ends.
